Our Work

To promote brain health by preserving memories, celebrating cultural heritage, and helping communities express their stories on memory through art.

Project

Elders Creative Circle

The Elders Creative Circle project is part of the pilot awards for brain health leaders under the Atlantic Fellows Equity in Brain Health program supported by the Alzheimer's Society ’s Alzheimer's Association® the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) . This project aims at using indigenous art and traditional knowledge systems for social engagement and dementia risk awareness among seniors in Okere City, Otuke District in Nothern Uganda. We can’t wait to explore possibilities creative arts have in enhancing brain equity among seniors in Otuke.

Pilot Project
  • According to World Health Organisation (WHO), social isolation and loneliness are widespread with an estimate of 1 in 4 older persons experiencing social isolation in most countries.
  • Social Isolation is often overlooked as a significant risk factor to dementia in many Low and Middle Income Countries (LMCl’s) like Uganda and yet it has a huge effect on dementia risk in late life (65+) according to The Lancet Report 2024
